FROM NOT YET… TO YES!

The other day I learned the coolest lesson that I knew I simply had to share with you. Many times in business we try things and some things succeed while others land a giant goose egg (and I’m not talking about Golden Goose, more of the big zero). The key is to not let the goose egg moments to discourage you, instead view them as NOT YET moments.

Let me give you a little context.

In addition to my incredible business supporting YOU in your business branding, I also have a business called Become Yoga where I give women the tools they need to overcome the power that stress can have on their health, mind and happiness by teaching them how to access the ability to relax that is already inside them through the practice of yoga, mindfulness techniques, and breathing practices. In that business, I’m always looking for new fun group class opportunities.

Last October I decided that it was a perfect opportunity to hold an outdoor yoga class at a nearby park. I had childcare covered and the weather was going to be gorgeous. The town manager helped me out with advertising the event and I was all set for a sell out class. Only thing is no one showed up.

Fast forward to last week.

The head of a local organization contacted me about teaching a pop up stress relieving class. As she and I chatted about the details of the event, she mentioned that she found out about me from an advertisement she saw about Yoga in the Park. Mind you, this is the same event that months earlier I had considered a bust. Instead of a failed event, it was a not yet event that lead to something even greater!

There are two ways that we can respond when things don’t go as we planned:

1- LEARN FROM IT

When things we create with our business don’t pan out, use it as an opportunity to review it. Maybe it was an event that you planned that no one signed up for- perhaps trying a different day or time would work out better for your audience. So much of business is holding things in the open hand and looking at what you can learn. Approach your products and services as a chance to experiment. Trying things is a great way to learn more about your audience. It is a tool to learn, not a reflection of you personally. Do not attach your self worth as a business owner to the success of a single product or service.

2- IT’S A NOT YET OPPORTUNITY

This one can be challenging as many business owners (like myself) want to see results instantly or if not instantly, how they will fit together to form a better opportunity. However, as challenging as it can be, it is true. Each opportunity serves as a chance not only to improve in the short term but can lead to something incredible in the long term.

Business is a long game full of wins and challenges and each one can serve to create a better business if you embrace each one with a learners mind ready to make a difference not only today but into the future.

Wishing you the best in all of your opportunities!
